The art program at Midreshet HaRova is designed both to give students guidance in a variety of art forms and techniques and to teach students a form of self-expression that can be used to enhance their learning and living as Jewish women.
The program includes two segments:
- A component that exposes the students to a variety of techniques and allows them to experiment with materials, styles and mediums including painting, sculpture and drawing
- Work on individual art pieces of each student's choice
Students may choose to register for both segments or for either segment.
While many of the students who choose to participate are highly talented, the course is open to all, including those with little or no previous experience. Our only requirement for participation is a commitment to the course, and a serious approach to the material at hand - plus a willingness to be part of the cleanup after each project!
The Art course is marked by an open and cooperative group atmosphere which encourages creativity, and a real exploration of themes in Jewish self-expression. Projects generally center on the yearly cycle of the Jewish calendar, with individual work open to a broader, self-generated series of themes. Our goal is to create beautiful projects that are at once aesthetically pleasing and practical.
Throughout all parts of the course, active discussion on how art issues relate to the world of dati women is both instigated and encouraged .
